Created for the Art Institute of Chicago’s exhibition Willem de Kooning: Drawing, this film explores how drawing shaped de Kooning’s seven-decade practice. Featuring curator Kevin Salatino and conservator Margaret Holben Ellis, it moves between artworks, archival material, and hands-on demonstrations to reveal the unconventional tools, techniques, and restless experimentation that defined his work. De Kooning’s idea of “the glimpse” provides a thread, showing how fleeting impressions and the act of drawing informed his work across media.
